A ratio compares quantities in a stated order. means 3 units of the first quantity for every 5 units of the second; it is not automatically part to whole.
Key idea
Write what each number measures. A correct calculation with the wrong quantity or unit still misses the question.
To split a total in the ratio , count equal shares. One share is the total divided by , then multiply by the requested number of shares.
